Puerto Rico - Hurricane Fiona
Hispanic Federation took immediate action to address the immense destruction of Hurricane Ian in Florida and Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Our teams on the ground have quickly mobilized resources and volunteers to help the people most affected by these devastating storms. Here is how your dollars are helping us help those most in need:
- More than 30,000 solar lamps have been distributed
- Generators have been distributed to individuals and health care facilities
- A network of community kitchens across Puerto Rico have been set up to provide hot meals to families
- Much-needed drinking water is also being distributed to affected communities
- HF’s 140-strong network of community-based nonprofits are being supported to provide direct assistance to affected individuals and families
- Cash cards are being distributed to families to take care of emergency needs
- Financial and technical assistance is being given to farmers whose farms and harvest were impacted by the storm
- Emergency solar-powered electrical systems have been set up in Salinas, Lajas and Santa Isabel
- Digital “hot spots” have been set up to help with internet and communications access have been provided
Dominican Republic - Hurricane Fiona
- Hispanic Federation is in contact with NGOs to support local relief efforts. Emergency relief includes provision of basic items such as hygienic products, mattresses, and home goods. It also includes the rebuilding of homes, including roof repair.
Florida - Hurricane Ian
- HF has launched a $100,000 Hurricane Ian Emergency Relief Fund to help 10 grassroots nonprofits provide relief to thousands of individuals and families in Central and South Florida.
- HF is distributing portable stoves and delivering nonperishable food to the hardest-hit families
- HF is serving hot meals through community food kitchens placed in affected areas
- Cash assistance is being provided to individuals who’ve lost jobs and need to pay for basic necessities, including rent
